It’s back, and it seems to be fixed(other than the paint, which is still being scheduled). No clunks, no drips. 25+ days of the absence was due to them not paying enough attention to the tool that they use to install the rear main seal, which was broken.
Anyway, it’s not over, but the car seems/feels mechanically sound.

Is this just a fluke or do other GTIs also have this issue?

There have been other cars with leaky lower pans(not super common, people lowering the car and smashing the pan is more common) , but mine seems to be the first with the upper pan failure.
VW changed up to an actual gasket instead of a sealant, which did work. The lower pan isn’t a big job, the upper is.

Seems like t here’s a few broken tools at that dealer...

Seems hard to trust that car again, but we can only hope

Yeah, it’s got 65k miles of warranty left at least.

Nice! Glad it’s back. And that color is amazing- wish i could see it in person.

So I’m assuming you’re keeping it and the buyback is cancelled? Are you going to try to hang onto it for awhile or trade it in?

Gotcha. Have fun!

Hang on to it for now, when it works it’s a fantastic car. Yeah, the buyback was canceled when VW realized the issue. Which is kind of annoying, but whatever.

I’d be after VW for an extended warranty or something after this ordeal.

A Russian car wouldn't have made it to the dealer.

VW had a couple cars in this color at the detroit auto show, it’s a good color.

I’m just glad you didn’t go ahead and get another car while waiting for this to be resolved.

Lol, I’m not that impatient. I was planning on driving my old 4Runner and waiting for the right car.

You’ve been without your GTI almost as long as some government employees have been without stable employment.
Anyway, glad the GTI is back. Sorry I missed you guys at Daytona, but the GTI is looking good as always (minus the scratches I can’t see in the photos). I know it’s been said before, but is there another dealer in the SC area you can go to?

Russian car wouldn’t go back to a dealer, owner would fix it himself

There might be, but none of them are what you would call good.

So, after this initial madness, it would be a cool story if you drove this thing for 200k miles with basically zero issues. Probably a pipe dream...

It would be neat.
